This is more or less a way for me to keep track of what I've read since this year and maybe inspire someone to visit their local library.
Three Bargains- The book has been compared to the Kite Runner, but lacks it's depth. It is a great story line about a guy in India who has to bargain three times in his life for things he loves. It would be better if the book was longer.
I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings- Who doesn't love Maya Angelou? This should be on everyone's list to read at some point in their lives.
Girl with the Pearl Earring- This book creates a story for the famous painting by the same title. It's about a girl coming into womanhood. I think most of us can relate to that.
The Birth of the Pill- With a clever yet, accurate title, this book discusses the foundation of oral contraception and how it shaped the way we think about sex today. For conservatives out there, the book does not talk about sex, but the science and social implications of the pill. So it is SFW.
I Am Malala- Malala Yousafazi may still be a teenager, but she is my role model . As a young girl in Pakistan, Malala spoke out for education rights for women. When she was on her way home from school, she was shot in the head by the Taliban who wanted to silence her. This girl survived and is now the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Yes Please- This book by Amy Pohler soothes my comedic soul. As a fan of Amy's for quite some years, it's really hard to disappoint. My one wish was that she added more reflex of lessons learned as she discussed her history in the biz, rather than a timeline of who she met and where she performed.
Not That Kind of Girl- I had no idea who Lena Dunham was, aside from the fact that she was on some show on HBO that I'd never seen. Now I am in love with Lena Dunham. This chick puts it out there and makes no apologies. Her stories are "every girl's stories". So funny and so honest. This book should be on the required reading list for every twentysomething girl.
Sophie Kinsella Books- Author of the Shopaholic series, she is by far my favorite author when it comes to leisure reads. I would love to see any of her books become a movie, just like her first one, but until then, I will be on her waiting list for her next book.
·Shopaholic to the Stars- Her latest installment to the shopaholic series. There were too many story lines in this book, that it left you hanging empty at the end. Not my favorite.
·Shopaholic and Sister
·Mini Shopaholic
·I've Got Your Number
·Wedding Night
