Back at It Again

Almost three years ago my life changed. I was living in a rural village in Africa, far from my comfort zone, and I couldn't be happier. Half way around the world from those that I loved, and yet I was at peace. Now, back in my familiar surroundings, my mind is elsewhere. Sometimes I ache to be back in Swaziland, or to revisit the streets of London or Budapest. Other times I want to trek it up north in Canada, or backpack to Machu Picchu. Maybe I’ll do that in 2016 and stop by Brazil along the way to cheer for team USA. I've never been to Asia. I’ll save that for a possible honeymoon destination just in case.  There is always the Middle East to consider as well, but then I have to worry about all that bombing. Oh wait, I forgot to turn off the news channel.  Ok. So the Middle East is nice, I might even pick that trip to Jordan to do my field study for grad school, or maybe not. Speaking of grad school, I need to visit my friend and OKC and Seattle before I start in August. Crap, I just remembered I need to renew my passport.

It’s been a few months since I wrote my last blog post. I've felt kind of empty without my bi-weekly updates. My first blog was all about my Peace Corps experience in Swaziland, it was also the title. Thus I decided it’s time to deviate from that blog and start a new one. This time I am making it broad so I can write about whatever, whenever.  So what can you expect this time around? Well for starters I’ll be writing about my life as a RPCV (Returned Peace Corps Volunteer) and how integrating back into America was actually harder than you’d think. I’ll also write about moving to DC, starting grad school, getting engaged/married and how life is with my significant other (Jason*). There will also probably be some rants and politico talk. I wasn't allowed to do that in my last blog due to the fact that I was a government “employee”. My worldview has somewhat changed in the last two years, and I’m a bit more vocal about it, just ask my mother.

Hopefully this blog won’t tank, and I’ll have a few readers. So if you're out there, thanks for stopping by. I promise to be entertaining and hope you'll catch fernweh with me.

·· You can read my original blog here, and catch up with all my stories.

*Jason is his real name. Just wanted to see if anyone actually read these footnotes.

  1. Hahaha, I read the footnote! You are definitely always entertaining, I can't wait to read more ;)

Btw, how is it possible that you find this amazing, impeccable word, one that fits my soul so completely, a word I should've known about oh, uh, 20 years ago, and I didn't know it existed! Thank you for finding this word, I'm ashamed I didn't know it!
